It is one of many common wordpress errors which almost everyone faces. So what is the reason behind this error and how we can fix it? Let us see.

How this error occurs?

This error mostly occurs when you are updating your theme or plugin or even wordpress core.

Whenever you are updating any of the above mentioned elements in the WordPress website, wordpress automatically creates a maintenance file in the root directory.

Until and unless the update task is in progress, the website shows “Briefly Unavailable for Scheduled Maintenance” message on homepage and on other links on the website.
Due to internet connectivity disturbance the update server and website server cannot coordinate hence your maintenance file stays there at the time of failure.

 

How to fix this error?

“WordPress Briefly Unavailable For Scheduled Maintenance error” can be fixed by deleting .maintenance file, which is created at the time of updating. This file automatically gets deleted upon successful installation of updates but if the process is interrupted then you have to do it manually.

There are two ways of doing this, let’s know them:

Option 1: Using FTP

You can use your FTP credentials to login into your hosting space and delete the file.

There are several FTP clients which can help you in connecting to your hosting space using FTP protocol. Filezilla is one of the free FTP clients that you can use.

Option 2: Using CPanel

Incase you do not have credentials for FTP access you can use cpanel login to access your web hosting.

You can visit Cpanel login page by adding /cpanel after your domain name.

It will display cpanel login page.

After logging in, navigate to file manager and unhide the hidden files by navigating to settings, click on Show hidden files and click on Go.

After unding files you will see maintenance file in the main www or public_html directory. Delete it and the error will be gone.
